About Dafydd

Dafydd reports to the Vice-Chancellor and has a broad cross institutional remit for the delivery of University strategy and holds the executive portfolio for international. He works closely with the DVCs for education and student experience, research and innovation, the Executive Deans of our 3 faculties and with the Chief Finance Officer and Registrar and Secretary and with senior colleagues across the University to deliver a portfolio of responsibilities that include:

  • Leading on the annual Institutional Planning and Accountability Cycle, covering all aspects of institutional resourcing and performance
  • Devising and delivering institutional International Strategy, including developing our Transnational Education portfolio and chairing of University International Group
  • Oversight of overall size and shape of academic portfolio through chairing Academic Development and Partnership Committee.
  • Executive lead working with the Director of Human Resources to foster good relationships with recognised Trade Unions
  • Oversight of the delivery of the University’s capital programme through chairing Capital Programme Committee
  • Oversight of the formulation and delivery of the University’s Digital Strategic Plan through chairing IT and Digital Committee
  • Member of UEG Risk Review Group and Honorary Awards Committee
  • Leadership of specific projects of strategic importance to the University
  • Formally deputising for the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive

He is a member of University Senate, and attends Board of Governors meetings, and meetings of the Finance and Audit & Risk Committees and the Health Safety and Wellbeing Advisory Committee.

Dafydd was previously on the Board of Plymouth Culture and Literature Works, and was on the Management Board of the ESRC South West DTP. He represents the University on the Advisory Group of The Box, Plymouth. He carries out external work for the AHRC, UUKi and the Association of Commonwealth Universities Higher Education Taskforce.

Dafydd has previously been Head of the School of Humanities and Performing Arts; Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Business; and PVC Research. He holds a Chair in Eighteenth-Century English Literature and works on questions of national, cultural and political identity with the literature of the period.
